Aminopeptides (“Aminopeptides,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website aminopeptides.ca and sells research peptides and related laboratory supplies to customers in Canada. We take our obligations under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) seriously, and this Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how it is used, with whom it is shared, how long we keep it, and the rights you have with respect to your own information. This policy applies to all personal information collected through aminopeptides.ca, through our customer-support email channels, and through any order placed with us by Interac e-Transfer.
Research-Use Disclaimer
All products sold by Aminopeptides are supplied strictly for in-vitro laboratory and research purposes. They are not intended for human or veterinary consumption and have not been approved by Health Canada for therapeutic, diagnostic, or cosmetic use. This disclaimer is incorporated by reference into this Privacy Policy because certain information we collect — including information submitted in connection with an order — is retained in part to document the research-use context of each transaction.
The Personal Information We Collect
The categories of personal information we collect vary with how you interact with us. Broadly, the categories include:
- Identity and contact information — full name, shipping address, billing address (where distinct), email address, and any phone number you choose to provide for delivery coordination
- Order information — the products you purchase, the order number assigned at checkout, order totals, the Interac e-Transfer confirmation identifier, and any notes or special instructions you submit with your order
- Customer-support correspondence — the contents of emails you send to aminopeptides1@gmail.com or to privacy@aminopeptides.ca, including any attachments such as photographs submitted with a damage claim
- Technical and usage information — the Internet Protocol (IP) address you connect from, the type and version of your browser and operating system, the pages of aminopeptides.ca you visit, the links you click, the date and time of those events, and referral information indicating how you arrived at our site
- Marketing preferences — whether you have subscribed to our email newsletter, which campaigns you have opened or clicked, and any unsubscribe event
We do not ask for, and do not knowingly collect, sensitive information such as Social Insurance Numbers, driver’s licence numbers, health records, or biometric data. We do not collect payment-card numbers because we do not process credit or debit cards; all payments are made by Interac e-Transfer, which is handled by your own banking institution and not by Aminopeptides.
Why We Collect Personal Information
We collect personal information only for purposes a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances, as required by Principle 3 of PIPEDA. The specific purposes are:
- To accept, verify, and fulfill your order, including preparing the parcel, generating the Canada Post shipping label, and communicating tracking information
- To reconcile your Interac e-Transfer against your order number so that we can confirm payment before dispatch
- To respond to customer-support inquiries, process damage claims, and handle any question or complaint you submit
- To send transactional emails such as order confirmations, payment confirmations, tracking notifications, and policy updates
- To maintain the accounting and tax records we are required to keep under the Income Tax Act and related Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) guidance
- To detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, and security incidents affecting our website or our customers
- To measure and improve the performance, accessibility, and security of aminopeptides.ca through aggregate analytics
- With your express, opt-in consent, to send occasional marketing emails about new products, educational content, and promotions
Cookies and Similar Technologies
Aminopeptides.ca uses cookies and a small number of similar technologies. Strictly necessary cookies keep your shopping cart populated, remember your age-verification acknowledgement, and preserve your session as you move between pages; these cookies cannot be disabled without breaking the site. Analytics cookies, set by our privacy-respecting analytics provider, record aggregate traffic patterns and do not link browsing behaviour back to an identifiable individual. We do not currently run behavioural-advertising pixels, cross-site trackers, or social-login widgets that transmit data to third parties in the background. You may clear or block cookies through your browser settings at any time; if you choose to block strictly necessary cookies, portions of the site will not function as intended. [LAWYER REVIEW REQUIRED] Counsel should confirm whether an active cookie-consent banner is required under Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) and the forthcoming federal privacy-law reforms.
Third Parties Who Process Information on Our Behalf
To operate the store we rely on a small number of carefully selected service providers, each of whom is contractually bound to process personal information only for the purposes we specify and to protect it with reasonable safeguards. These include:
- Our website hosting and infrastructure provider, which stores the website files and customer-facing database
- Our transactional email provider, which delivers order confirmations, payment confirmations, and tracking notifications to your inbox
- Canada Post, which receives the name, address, and parcel details necessary to deliver your order
- Our privacy-respecting web-analytics provider, which receives aggregate traffic information
- Our accounting and bookkeeping provider, which receives transaction records necessary for tax compliance
We do not sell personal information, and we do not rent or trade customer lists. Information leaves Aminopeptides only in the service of fulfilling your order, complying with our legal obligations, or providing you with services you have requested. [LAWYER REVIEW REQUIRED] Counsel should confirm the cross-border data-transfer language once the specific hosting, email, and analytics vendors are finalized, and confirm that any US-domiciled processor is covered by an appropriate data-processing agreement.
Retention Periods
Transaction records — including order details, invoices, payment confirmations, and related correspondence — are retained for a minimum of seven (7) years, consistent with the record-retention guidance issued by the Canada Revenue Agency under the Income Tax Act. Customer-support emails that are not part of a transaction record are retained for two (2) years from the date of the last correspondence. Marketing contact information is retained until you unsubscribe or until two (2) years of inactivity, whichever comes first. Web-server access logs are retained for ninety (90) days for security and abuse-investigation purposes, after which they are purged or anonymized. Where you exercise a right of deletion as described below, we will honour the request to the fullest extent compatible with our legal obligations; information that must be retained for CRA or other statutory purposes will be minimized and segregated rather than deleted.
Your Rights Under PIPEDA
Under PIPEDA and related Canadian privacy law, you have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to receive a copy of that information, to request correction of any inaccuracy, to withdraw consent for any processing that depends on consent (subject to legal and contractual restrictions), and to ask us to delete information we no longer need. To exercise any of these rights, write to privacy@aminopeptides.ca from the email address on file for your orders and describe the right you wish to exercise. We will respond within thirty (30) days and will verify your identity before releasing or modifying any information. In limited cases we may decline a request — for example, where releasing information would reveal personal information about another individual, where the information is subject to legal privilege, or where a record must be retained for statutory purposes; in such cases we will explain the reason for the refusal.
Children’s Information
Aminopeptides does not sell to, market to, or knowingly collect personal information from individuals under the age of eighteen (18). If we learn that we have inadvertently collected information from a minor, we will delete that information promptly.
Security Safeguards
Aminopeptides maintains administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information against loss, theft, and unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use, or modification. These safeguards include encrypted transport (HTTPS) for all connections to aminopeptides.ca, access controls on administrative systems, least-privilege provisioning for staff and contractors, and regular patching of server infrastructure. No safeguard is perfect, and we cannot guarantee absolute security; in the event of a breach involving real risk of significant harm we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) as required by PIPEDA.
Privacy Inquiries and Complaint Escalation
Questions, concerns, and requests regarding this Privacy Policy or the handling of your personal information should be directed to our Privacy Officer at privacy@aminopeptides.ca. We will acknowledge your inquiry within five (5) business days and aim to resolve it within thirty (30) days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to escalate the matter to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, which can be contacted at 30 Victoria Street, Gatineau, Quebec, K1A 1H3, by telephone at 1-800-282-1376, or through the online complaint form on the OPC’s website. [LAWYER REVIEW REQUIRED] Counsel should confirm whether a designated Privacy Officer name and title must appear in this section under PIPEDA once Aminopeptides has named the individual occupying that role.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect operational, legal, or regulatory changes. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will always indicate when the most recent revision took effect. Material changes will be communicated through a prominent notice on aminopeptides.ca and, where appropriate, by email to customers affected by the change. Your continued use of aminopeptides.ca after the revised policy takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
